ongoing project. started in 2023

I am continually entranced by the ways and variation of ways one can pay tribute or homage to important parts of any life or the parts that have passed, The physical parts that remains, even through growth has stopped, the physical still changes. This project is the ongoing process of honoring Grandmother. How do we honor those loved ones lost when thier spirit and growth is gone and so much of them still physically remains? My hope is that this project evokes the gravity of losing loved one while still feeling the emotional warmth that is no longer there in our physical realm

My goal is to “harvest” a small portion of her remains. Take those remains and ALL elements of her during the harvest, dust, bark, leaves. A piece of furniture will be made by my own hands of Grandmother, the elements that do not develop into piece of furniture will be burned and made into pigment, then a painting made of Grandmothers ash pigment will accompany the piece of furniture.

It will take approximately one year for the lumber harvested from Grandmother is ready to work with.

Grandmother is / was on the front our our family land. I believe it was my mother, Ruth who named her Grandmother.
